A BEAUTY therapist from Totnes has been named as Holistic Therapist of the Year in the prestigious British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology Awards in London.
Sarah Holdsworth, who has massaged some of the world’s most glamorous women, beat off stiff competition from all over Britain to scoop the award.
Sarah works under the professional name Inner Beauty and has a fragrant and tranquil treatment room in the Bliss Salon in Fore Street, Totnes.
She said yesterday: “To be recognised at this level is a great achievement, and I am delighted to bring the trophy home to Devon.”
The award ceremony took place at the Kensington Roof Gardens in London, and was presented by television personality Sian Jones.
Sarah trained at the Grand Hotel in Torquay before travelling the world, working on some of the most glamorous cruise liners on the high seas.
When she came back to Britain she managed beauty salons and spas in top London hotels, including the Dorchester and the Berkeley.
She was soon on first name terms with many of the world’s rich and famous, including some celebrity superstars she is too discreet to name.
But then came a lifechanging moment. “In recent years I became attracted to a more holistic approach to health and wellbeing, and I had an opportunity to work at University College Hospital as a volunteer complementary therapist,” Sarah said.
“The knowledge and experience I gained there made me determined to offer a more complete and holistic approach to beauty therapy.”
So Sarah moved back to Devon, going into business for herself.
Then in 2008 she decided to apply for a post at a local hospice as beauty therapist to the residents two days a week.
She said: “It’s absolutely fantastic, and I’d love to do more. It gives you a whole new perspective on people and life in general. I’ve learned so much since I’ve been there.”
As well as the usual list of beauty treatments, including pedicures, manicures, facials, eye care and waxing, Sarah also offers a full range of massage treatments, including Swedish, aromatherapy, Indian Head and Reiki.
“I also do ladies’, children’s and make-up parties and, of course wedding packages,” she said. “I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful treatment room at Bliss
