NEW ZEALANDERS feature among Australia’s richest young people.

The BRW young rich list ranks 81 people aged 40 or under worth at least A$12 million.

Former Whakatane couple Chris and Virginia Anderson, now Brisbane- based property tycoons, debut at No 29, with an estimated wealth of A$35 million.

Mr Anderson, 38, started off doing house renovations before building spec homes. The Queensland property boom has propelled the couple’s fortunes, and their company, Javica, now includes plumbing, plastering, roofing and electrical businesses.

Former rugby league player Jarrod McCracken, 36, also built his A$20 million fortune on the back of the Queensland property boom. He owns retail properties and hotels in Townsville, where he has completed several big residential developments. He is 64th.

Banker Alistair Jeffery, who founded Australian mortgage company Bluestone in 2000, has an estimated wealth of A$55 million. Mr Jeffery, 40, born in Britain, grew up in New Zealand, graduating from Auckland University.

Fashion designer Collette Dinnigan, 40, received her secondary school education in New Zealand before moving to Australia in 1985 and going on to build a A$21 million label
